How we calculate
Inflation compounds every year. The amount needed in the future is amount × (1 + inflation)^years, and the purchasing power of uninvested money is amount ÷ (1 + inflation)^years.
The real return comes from the Fisher equation: (1 + nominal return) ÷ (1 + inflation) − 1. If it is negative, your savings lose purchasing power even while the balance grows.
The chart and statistics show both scenarios in today’s euros, so they compare directly with the starting amount.
Inflation and returns are assumed constant every year, with no taxes or fees. Educational use only, not financial advice.
